The Daily Grind
The twists of barbed wire obscure the view
The bark of the dogs makes me feel blue
The light shining through the bars
Awakes me to the sound of cars
Roaring along the motorway all night long
The background hum, almost like bird song
Wheels on trolleys that need some oil
Run all day long, their endless toil
Clocks tick by, the endless hours
Water rushes through the very cold showers
It’s time for dinner and then for tea
The only two events that seem to be
Left in my life, everything else is gone
Do I live here, is it where I belong?
Or am I just passing through
Each day the same, nothing new
Routine is the name of the game
How are you doing? Oh just the same
Nothing sparks excitement in me
Except when I’m writing poetry
So come on why don’t you give it a try
See if it can give you a natural high
Making you feel good inside
On a wave of happiness you can ride
