Meditation Series

Meditation Series

Do you ever find yourself thinking over and over about events from the past or things that may happen in the future? This is very common and most of us do it a lot of the time. Although it is completely normal, we can cause ourselves distress by doing this too much, especially if we are thinking about distressing or stressful events. Meditation brings our attention away from this and into the present moment, rather than the past or future. Over time, we get better at managing our thoughts and experience better focus, better concentration and increased clarity of mind.

You will have the chance to be talked through a beginner’s introduction to a meditation course via the prison radio by a psychologist who is a trained meditation teacher, and join in with guided meditations to experience the benefits of this ancient practice. As well as helping us to manage our thoughts, meditation has a calming effect on the body and mind. It brings about relaxation and a sense of inner peace. Practicing meditation also boosts our mood and acts as a tool to calm ourselves down, which can help us when dealing with stressful situations.

There will be five episodes covering what meditation is and how it can benefit you, the myths of meditation, how meditation benefits our mental health, emotional wellbeing and physical health, the changes that occur in the brain during meditation, how meditation can bring our autonomic nervous system back into balance, where meditation comes from and its history and meditation practices using the breath, mantra, visualisation and many other types!

We hope you can join us for this Meditation series, commencing in April 2023.
