National Prison Radio’s legal programme, The Brief, is returning to the airwaves and we want your questions
Presenter Hilary Ineomo-Marcus is joined by solicitor and prison law expert Claire Salama (above). The show aims to look at a whole range of issues that affect people in prison.
Some subjects we’ve looked at in the past include the Incentives and Earned Privileges scheme (IEP), cell searches, categorisation, your rights around mental ill-health, what prison rules apply to older people in prison, adjudications, parole and many others.
You may have questions about prison rules, what your rights are when you’re in prison, whether you’re being treated or dealt with lawfully, what responsibilities you have while you’re in prison and different types of prison sentences.
We cannot give out personal legal advice – this show is about helping you to understand the legal principles that exist in prison and providing information that can help everyone.
During the show we often refer to PSOs and PSIs – that’s Prison Service Orders and Prison Service Instructions. These are the rules that set out how people in prison should be dealt with. All of these should be made available to you via the prison library, but by listening to The Brief, we’ll give you an overview of the relevant rules and regulations.
