This Girl Can
Do you need some inspiration to get active? This month on National Prison Radio we’re launching a brand-new 15-minute feature called This Girl Can. The aim of the show is to celebrate exercise and inspire women to get up and get moving.
Physical activity has huge benefits on the body – both physically and mentally. Looking after our physical and mental health is especially important whilst in prison. Exercise can help us stay focused, calm and generally feeling good.
Each week on Friday afternoon This Girl Can will bring a guided workout on National Prison Radio. You can follow along in your cell and be sure to get your pulses raised and those all-important feel good endorphins flowing.
This Girl Can will be hosted by presenter Jules and has been produced by our team in women’s prison HMP Styal. As well as on-air workouts, Jules will interview inspirational female guests each week to find out what inspires them and helps them to stay motivated to move their bodies and keep healthy.
This Girl Can has been made thanks to funding from Sport England, the government body responsible for getting more people active across England. Sport England launched This Girl Can in 2015, as a nationwide campaign to get women and girls moving, regardless of shape, size or ability.
The campaign celebrates active women and aims to challenge the conventional idea of what exercise looks like by reaching women of all backgrounds and ethnicities who may feel left behind by traditional exercise.
This Girl Can will broadcast each week during ‘NPR Friday’, every Friday at 6pm.
National Prison Radio is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, in your cell.
