What are you doing on Friday evenings?
NPR Friday is your warm welcome to the weekend, and it broadcasts exclusively on National Prison Radio. It’s hosted every week by Sophie and Ellie, both currently resident at HMP Styal. Every week they bring you chat, tunes and teasers to welcome you to the weekend.
The week can be tough in prison, and so can the weekends. But to bring a little bit of that Friday feeling into your pad, the NPR Friday team have interviews, features and fun facts. And it’s all done with a smile!
Ellie describes the programme like this: ‘We talk about all kinds of weird and wonderful things – so get your canteen in and chill out with us. About me? I have a tortoise called Piglet and a tattoo of a penny for good luck … so far, it hasn’t really worked!’
Sophie loves how NPR Friday is the show to get you ready for Friday nights: ‘NPR Friday is the ‘calm before the storm’ that is NRG – our weekly hardcore dance show. It gets you ready for the weekend. I’m the oldest young ‘un you could ever hope to meet and love Dolly Parton, knitting and baking. But when I’m on the out you can find me living my best life in the club or at a festival!’
