The Secret VP should stop hiding
I would like to comment on something which I considered to be the height of bad taste: the regular Inside Time column for The Secret VP, in which they voice their experiences of being of vulnerable prisoner.
It feels very much like this person is attempting to blur the lines between us mains prisoners and VPs, drawing parallels to get people to think they’re the same. Well, we’re not. Put to one side the fact that this individual says that they’ve only been in prison for a year, so they don’t really know anything about prison, relative to those of us who have spent years in here among the general population across multiple prisons.
This person needs to stop acting as though VPs are the victims of discrimination when people dislike them for a very good reason and have cause to do so? If someone is on a VP wing because they are genuinely vulnerable, I am not taking aim at you. But if it’s offence related, you’re there for a reason. If the secret VP feels so strongly about their plight or their perceived injustice, then they should stop hiding their identity.
My own humble take, was that it looked unhelpful for the VP to criticise Mains prisoners for their feelings. When he himself was asking for less criticism of VP’s.
