Another Spell
So here I go again with
another spell inside
Life outside is hard
But can’t really say I tried
Straight back on the shoplift
to fund a nasty habit
Bouncing round the outlets
as if I was Roger Rabbit
Hundreds every day to pay for
all the white
In and out in seconds in this sleight of hand fight
Taking all I can from any kind of shops
And couldn’t give a toss for the owners or the cops
A crazy hectic life to live like this each day
But the addict doesn’t care
and I don’t get a say
Controlled from head to toe
By the addicted inner being
My reflection in the mirror
But it isn’t me they’re seeing
Like a puppet master
my addiction pulls the strings
Not caring how I’m feeling or
all the sh*t it brings
I wish that I could stop this
But the urge is way too strong
And knowing that my gameplan
is trouble and all wrong
But addiction is an illness and I was born with this
Like the couple in the garden
Who got the serpent kiss
I’ve been through all the habits
and the latest one’s been crack
It’s been the hardest so far
and the monkey on my back
Running round all manic
To fund another score
But no matter what I manage
The beast inside wants more
A never-ending battle
which I know I’ll always lose
Though I know I’ll have to surge on
cos I don’t get to choose
A game of cat and mouse with
The police right on my case
And they’re always gonna catch me
Cos they all know my face
Prolific is the title as a lifter, I’ve been named
And this is where life has led me
No worries and not shamed
My sentences are rising and the prison time is longer.
But the more time I am free
The addiction just gets stronger
I don’t mind the jail time
It’s where I’m feeling well
Detox for some time and a
Relax in my cell
I don’t understand though
On the wings the urges go
Don’t think of any substance
Won’t even think to score
So, it’s lesser of two evils
Locked up but I am good
Wish I was well in civvy street
And really wish I could
So, it’s four months now to ride
And I’ll do it on my head
But it’s probably not long enough
outside I’m easily led
I’ve tried so many times
To live a life that’s clean
But the addicts always stronger
And flat out way too keen
So, I’ll down my pen for now
As I’m only a week in
Though I’m dreading getting out
As the white’s my cardinal sin.
